Why choose green onyx for a Sydney home?
Because no other green stone glows the way onyx does. It is translucent, so light passes right through it. Backlight a slab and the green banding, the movement and the depth all come alive in a way a photograph could never show you. Every slab is one of a kind, too. That is why people reach for green onyx when they want the surface to be the feature of a room rather than the backdrop. It rewards the right setting: a backlit feature wall, a powder-room vanity, a bar or island front, a splashback that catches the light.
“These guys are the go-to experts if you’re looking for top-notch quality marble. They are a family-owned company with extensive knowledge and expertise in everything related to marble.” – Alesandro, Google review
Green onyx or green marble – which are you looking at?
The two names get used interchangeably, but they are not the same stone, and the difference is worth a quick word. Green marble, stones like Verde Alpi or Verde Guatemala, is opaque and hard-wearing. Green onyx is softer and translucent. That translucency is the whole appeal, because it is what lets the stone be backlit. So if you have been searching for green marble but the surface in your head glows, onyx is almost certainly what you are after. Come in and we can walk you through the difference so you choose with your eyes open.
Which green onyx slabs does Euro Marble have in Sydney?
Our green onyx collection includes four selections: Jade Green Onyx, Onyx Passion, Rainbow Green Onyx and Verde Onyx, each with its own character of green banding and translucency. Because onyx is a natural stone, every slab is different, and no two share the same veining. Stock at this end of the range moves quickly, so call us on (02) 8585 2999 before you visit and we will tell you what green onyx is on the floor.
Where does green onyx work best in a home?
Onyx is a feature stone. It is happiest where it can be seen and lit, not worked hard. In Sydney homes and projects, its best work tends to be a backlit kitchen island or wet bar front, a book-matched feature wall in a lobby or luxury bathroom, a vanity top, a fireplace surround, or a splashback set away from the heat of a cooktop. In every one of these it does something manufactured surfaces cannot: it carries light and depth through the stone itself.
Can green onyx be backlit?
Yes, and it is the single best reason to choose it. Set an LED panel behind a translucent slab and the stone becomes a glowing feature, the green veining lit from within. It is what draws people to onyx over an opaque green marble in the first place. If a lit feature is what you have in mind, tell us at the start so we can factor it into how the stone is cut and finished. Start the conversation on our contact page.
Is green onyx tough enough for a kitchen benchtop?
Here is the honest answer, the same one we would give you in the showroom. Onyx is softer than marble, and more delicate again than quartzite or dolomite. It scratches, it etches when acids are left on it, and it wants sealing and a gentle hand. On a low-use vanity or a feature surface, that suits it beautifully. On a hard-working kitchen benchtop, it does not. There we would usually point you to a quartzite or a dolomite for the daily surfaces, and save the onyx for a backlit island end, a splashback or a feature wall where it can shine without being punished. We would rather say that up front than sell you a surface you will not love in five years.
Is your green onyx actually natural stone?
It is worth checking, because green onyx gets imitated in printed engineered panels and backlit acrylics. Those are consistent and identical from one sheet to the next, which misses the entire point of onyx. Real onyx is quarried, not manufactured, and no two slabs on earth share the same veining. We work only in natural stone. Every green onyx slab at Euro Marble came out of the ground, not off a production line.
What does green onyx cost in Sydney?
Green onyx sits at the premium, feature end of the natural stone market. What a project costs comes down to the slab you choose, the size of the piece, whether it is backlit, the edge profile and how involved the install is. Because all of that varies, we do not publish a template price. We would rather quote your actual job. The figure we give you is fixed and covers the lot: supply, templating, cutting, edging, sealing and installation. The number we quote is the number you pay.

What happens after you choose your slab?
The same four-step process we run on every project, all of it in-house:
- Showroom visit – you come in, see the green onyx we have available and choose your stone, with our team and your plans in the room.
- Templating – once your cabinetry or wall is ready, we template on site digitally, capturing every measurement, cut-out and edge.
- Cutting and finishing – your slab is cut, profiled and polished in our own Marrickville workshop on 5-axis CNC and waterjet machines. Nothing is outsourced.
- Installation and care walk-through – our own stonemasons install and seal the stone, then walk you through caring for your onyx before we sign off. Because natural stone lasts, you can come back to us to clean, polish or repair it down the track.
There is more detail on our installation and services pages, but the short version is simple: one team, one point of accountability, from the slab to your wall.
